Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: February 2026

1. Introduction

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of the SecureHome VPN service and related network services provided by SecureHome ("we", "us", "our"). This AUP forms part of our Terms & Conditions and applies to all clients who subscribe to our VPN and network protection services.

By using our VPN service, you agree to comply with this AUP. We reserve the right to update this policy from time to time, and will notify you of material changes by email at least 30 days in advance.

2. Purpose of the VPN Service

The SecureHome VPN is designed to protect your home network privacy by encrypting your internet traffic and preventing your internet service provider from monitoring your online activity. It is intended for lawful, personal, domestic use only.

Our VPN service is not designed or intended to be used as a tool to facilitate illegal activity of any kind.

3. Prohibited Activities

You must not use the SecureHome VPN service for any of the following purposes:

3.1 Illegal Activity

  • Any activity that violates the laws of England and Wales, or the laws of the jurisdiction in which you reside;
  • Accessing, distributing, or storing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any other illegal content;
  • Fraud, identity theft, phishing, or any form of financial crime;
  • Purchasing, selling, or distributing illegal substances or items;
  • Any activity that would constitute a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

3.2 Copyright Infringement

  • Downloading, uploading, or distributing copyrighted material without the permission of the rights holder;
  • Using peer-to-peer (P2P) networks or BitTorrent to share or download copyrighted content (including films, music, software, games, and television programmes) without authorisation;
  • Operating or contributing to websites or services that facilitate copyright infringement.

We comply fully with the Digital Economy Act 2010 and will cooperate with rights holders and law enforcement where required by law.

3.3 Network Abuse

  • Conducting or facilitating distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks or any other form of network attack against any target;
  • Sending unsolicited bulk email (spam) or participating in any email or messaging abuse;
  • Port scanning, vulnerability scanning, or penetration testing of external networks or systems without the explicit written consent of the system owner;
  • Operating servers, proxies, or relays (including Tor exit nodes) through the VPN without our prior written approval;
  • Deliberately attempting to degrade, disrupt, or overload our VPN infrastructure or any third-party network;
  • Intercepting, monitoring, or tampering with network traffic that is not your own.

3.4 Geo-Restriction Circumvention for Commercial Purposes

  • Using the VPN to bypass geographical restrictions or licensing controls for commercial purposes, including but not limited to accessing region-locked content for redistribution, resale, or commercial gain;
  • Violating the terms of service of any third-party platform by using our VPN to misrepresent your geographic location for commercial advantage.

For clarity: using a VPN for personal privacy while travelling or for general browsing is not prohibited. This clause applies specifically to systematic or commercial circumvention of geo-restrictions.

3.5 Harmful Content and Behaviour

  • Distributing malware, viruses, ransomware, or any other malicious software;
  • Engaging in harassment, threats, stalking, or any form of abuse directed at individuals or groups;
  • Hosting or distributing content that incites violence, hatred, or terrorism.

4. Fair Use

Our VPN service is designed for normal residential internet use. While we do not impose strict bandwidth caps, we expect usage to be consistent with typical home broadband patterns. We reserve the right to contact you if your usage significantly and persistently exceeds normal residential levels, and to apply reasonable traffic management measures if necessary to protect the quality of service for all clients.

5. Monitoring and Logging

SecureHome operates a strict no-activity-logging policy for VPN traffic. We do not monitor, record, or store the content of your internet activity while connected to our VPN. For full details of what data we do and do not collect, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

However, we reserve the right to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in response to valid legal process (such as court orders or warrants) issued under the laws of England and Wales.

6. Enforcement and Suspension

If we reasonably believe that you are using our VPN service in violation of this AUP, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Issue a warning -- we will contact you to explain the issue and request that you cease the prohibited activity;
  • Temporarily suspend your VPN service while we investigate the matter;
  • Permanently terminate your VPN subscription if the violation is serious, repeated, or you fail to remedy the issue after being warned;
  • Report the matter to law enforcement if we believe a criminal offence has been committed.

Where possible, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to respond before taking action. However, in cases involving serious criminal activity, imminent harm, or court orders, we may act immediately and without prior notice.

In the event of termination for a material breach of this AUP, no refund of prepaid subscription fees will be given for the remaining period. You will retain ownership of the router hardware.

7. Reporting Violations

If you become aware of any misuse of our VPN service, or if you believe that another user is violating this AUP, please report it to us at info@securehomeltd.co.uk. All reports will be treated confidentially.

8. Relationship with Other Policies

This AUP should be read in conjunction with our:

  • Terms & Conditions -- the full agreement governing your use of SecureHome products and services;
  • Privacy Policy -- details of how we collect, use, and protect your personal data.

In the event of any conflict between this AUP and the Terms & Conditions, the Terms & Conditions shall prevail.
